Forces and Motion

This study guide is intended to help you complete notes and revision for the Forces and Motion section of GCSE.

Visit the Learn Website. Read through the revision notes on Forces and answer the following questions. Finally, try the revision test !

1. Name two sorts of force. Describe the effects a force can have on an object.

2.Name the units for Mass and Weight. Write down an equation to calculate Weight from Mass.

3. Complete the following graphs to describe the motion of an object.

(a) Sketch the typical shape of the distance/time graph for an object at rest at a certain point from the observer.

(b) Sketch the typical shape of the speed/time graph for the same situation as (a).

(c) Sketch the typical shape of the distance/time graph for an object moving from rest with constant speed away from the observer.

(d) Sketch the typical shape of the speed/time graph for the same situation as (c).

4. Write down an equation which relates the following quantities:

  • Distance, Speed, Time
  • Acceleration, Initial speed, Final speed, time
  • Force, Mass, Acceleration
