Data
unit 2: Statistical displays

In this unit, you will learn how to present and interpret
statistical information in a pictorial form. This is extremely
useful whenever you need to compare one thing against another
(eg. House prices v unemployment), look at the proportions
making up one set of data (eg. The proportion of people
who vote for a political party), or investigate how the
data is spread out or has changed over time (eg. In the
distribution of pay salaries).
Diagrams
are displayed throughout the media to make sense of numerical
information, for
example in the marketing
of new products, providing a whole range of illustrations
to gauge performance and quickly communicate your findings.
These skills are therefore increasingly important in today’s
world.
Before you start this unit you should be familiar with
percentages, plotting points on a graph and finding the
equation of a given straight line. If you are familiar
with all these skills you should be able to proceed safely.
