Statistics Coursework

Unit 1.9 : Planning your coursework.

1. Once you know what your assignment is concerned with, you need to break down the task into much smaller questions, written as statements to be investigated. These are called the hypotheses and they include your predictions.

e.g. Older children are faster at sprinting than younger children.

Currently, your hypotheses must be linked and you should aim to have at least 3 hypotheses to get some decent marks.

2. The planning process now kicks in where you need to think about how you will obtain your data, the sampling method involved, and how you will gather the data. These have been dealt with in previous sections.

3. You could then do a trial run on a small sample and try to spot any potential difficulties or areas for further investigation. Any improvements could then be considered. In your introduction you need to say how you will use your data to illustrate or investigate the task.

e.g. I will use a scatter diagram to compare height against weight.

e.g. I will calculate the mean weight of the males and compare this against the mean weight of the females to see which is the heavier.
