Unit A6.1

Multiplication and Division only.

Let's start with some very easy equations in which only multiplication or division is involved.

e.g Solve for x
Clearly the division by 5 can be reversed by a multiplication by 5.

Multiplying each side by 5 then gives
This gives the solution as x=15 since the 5 cancels on the left.

e.g. Solve 4x = 12 for x.

Reversing the multiplication by 4 we need to divide by 4 to get
This gives the solution as x=3

Note
We can check the answer is correct by substituting the value of x in the original equation. 4x3=12 as expected!

e.g Solve for x.
We can rearrange this equation to write
This gives the solution as

Questions 6.1
