AS Law syllabus & exams


AQA Law requires the study of three areas – Law Making, Dispute Solving and the Concept of Liability. Three one-hour exams in June complete the course:

LAW1 – Law Making (1 hr exam)
  • Domestic Legislation
  • Delegated Legislation
  • Influences upon Parliament
  • Statutory Interpretation
  • The Doctrine of Judicial Precedent
LAW2 – Dispute Solving (1 hr exam)
  • The court structure
  • Alternatives to courts
  • The legal profession (barristers and solicitors)
  • Finance of Advice and Representation
  • The judges
  • Lay People (Lay Magistrates and Jurors)
LAW 3 – The Concept of Liability (1 hr exam)
  • Introduction to criminal liability
  • Criminal sanctions (eg prison, ASBOs, fines)
  • Introduction to tort
  • Civil remedies (ie compensation)
