Course Content

Course Content – AS Level
Information, Nature, Role and Context.
Information, Management and Manipulation.
One piece of course work using advanced features of generic application software eg a spreadsheet.
You will be required to find a problem that will lend itself to a software solution.

A2 Level
Information Systems within Organisations
Information: Policy, Strategy and Systems.
You will be required to complete a substantial problem and implement an information system to carry out the solution.

Assessment
AS – Two examinations of one and a half hours each, covering the two first year modules, and a piece of course work using an application to solve a real world problem. The application will be a spreadsheet. The exams will each represent 30% of the final AS result, (15% of the final A2 result. The practical component is worth 40% AS and 20% of A2.

A2 – Two examinations, covering the two second year modules, and a major project, which is to be implemented through a database system. The two second year exams are worth 15% each and the practical work is worth 20%.
