Consolidation of Power

When Hitler was appointed Chancellor in January 1933, his position of power was by no means secure. He was not a dictator and could have been removed from his position at any time, just as previous Chancellors had. However, by March 1933 Hitler had gained the power to issue decrees (laws) without the Reichstag’s approval, and by August 1934 he had established a dictatorship, declaring himself Fuhrer of Germany. This section aims to investigate the steps Hitler took to achieve this.
