Unit 3 Activity 1: Finding out about Child Development

Task1

The Internet is full of information on child development. How helpful is it? Can we trust what we are told? The following UK web sites give you information on how children grow and develop in their early years. Select one by clicking on it, and spend some time exploring the site. When you have done this, make a presentation for your class about this site. (You could use Power point to do this.) Your presentation should cover the following points:

  • Who produced the site? Was it–
    1. the government (web address usually ends in “.gov.uk”)
    2. a voluntary organization (web address ends in “.org.uk”)
    3. a commercial organisation (usually aiming to sell products - web address ends in “.co.uk or .com )
  • Do you think the information given is trustworthy? How do you know?
  • A brief summary of the information given
  • What you learned from it that you didn’t know before
  • How the information is presented and your opinion of this
  • A mark out of 10 for the web site
