Analysing poetry for
GCSE English Literature

These resources will be of particular use to those of you who are studying the AQA specification for GCSE. If you are studying the poem for the first time, you might like to work through all the activities on each poem. However, if you have already been taught these poems and are revising, you might like to choose some of the activities to develop your existing knowledge.

  Now you are going to explore the language used by  
 
Armitage in a little more detail. Use the clues in the  
  following crossword to help you consider the significance
  of the words chosen by the poet. All of the answers are

  Now look at the following quotations from the poem. Try to
  analyse these by focussing on how Armitage puts forward
  his ideas. Write your ideas clearly and in full sentences,
  using quotations to support your ideas. An example has
