Fact and Opinion: Can you tell them apart?

There are good activities to do on the Bitesize Revision site but here are some for you to try.

You will need to be able to spot the difference between fact and opinion for any work on non literary texts like

  • Newspaper articles
  • Leaflets
  • Reports

These appear at some point in the GCSE examination

Here are some clues.....

A FACT :

  • Is Information which is true or can be proved in some way by checking or counting
  • Often contains a definite or exact number like "78% of the population", "1254 people live on this estate", eight out of ten owners said their cats preferred it"

AN OPINION:

  • Is a feeling or view of a person or organisation
  • Is not necessarily true
  • Is something which could be questioned or disproved
  • Is something which might be exaggerated for effect

Can you identify the following as Fact or Opinion?
