Introduction to Citizenship

Who is a citizen?

Everyone who lives in the UK is a citizen, that is they are inhabitants of the UK:

It means that:
I’m a citizen, you’re a citizen, even David Beckham and the Queen are citizens

So what is citizenship?

Citizenship involves asking questions, for example

  • What rights do citizens have?
  • Who has authority over you (as a citizen)?
  • What is going on in society and how will it affect you?

We will be looking specifically at issues surrounding the citizen and the legal system
