Carbohydrates

Molecules present in living organisms may be inorganic or organic. Organic molecules include carbohydrates, proteins and fats, These provide energy and have the general formula Cx(H2O)n.
These include monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides. -

Monosaccharides include trioses (n = 3), pentoses (n = 5) such as ribose, and hexoses (n= 6) such as glucose, fructose and galactose. Disaccharides are soluble sugars. They are formed by the condensation of two monosaccharides. Polysaccharides are insoluble polymers such as starch, glycogen and cellulose - . Recap on this section on carbohydrates. -
